Have you tried litting the candle yourself? It's a lot easier.

You can pray for fire all you want, a flame isn't going to appear out of thin air.

But if you're still looking for a God of Fire, try Hephaestus. He's the Greek God of Fire and the Forge.

I rather think that a god would have more important things to do than to come along and light a candle for you, particularly since you can do that for yourself. In fact, I suspect that many of them would be quite annoyed at being used for such a trivial thing. And having a god annoyed at you is not something you really want to have happen.

If things worked that way, I'd be praying to a goddess of flight so I could use my broom instead of my car. But sadly, it doesn't. Gods and Goddesses generally don't do things like this even if they have that kind of power. As a deity, they have many more important jobs and things to attend to. Plus, if they performed things like this daily then why would humans ever do anything for themselves?

even if this is magic, some laws of science still apply. law of conservation of matter for one. fire doesn't appear out of thin air. No matter how much you pray to the gods. I've tried.

the law is titled "The Law of the Conservation of Matter and Energy". This also assumes that (since fire is a reaction and not matter itself) that if the energy came from somewhere else, maybe a fire god if one exists, then fire could appear out of thin air. Theoretically.
