A lot of people have told me that is it always better to perform a spell yourself. It is more powerful when you do it yourself. Why is that true? Is it impossible that a spell will work if someone else casts it on my behalf? I'm only asking this because I am very inexperienced in casting spells at this point.
While it is possible for someone else to cast a spell for you, it's more powerful when you cast it yourself. The reason is because when you cast it yourself, it is linked to your energy.
You see, every action (Be it a movement, word, or both) performed in a spell creates energy, and that energy is linked to someone else when the caster selects their target. When you cast it yourself, it is already linked to you. This is why it is more effective to cast them yourself. Because they use your energy, and therefor connect with you better. This is also why when you're casting a curse, you must state your target clearly. If you don't, the curse, being connected to you by your energy, will either disappear or backfire.
I know it's a bit long, but you must know this in order to cast successfully. (So, if you skipped to the bottom, I suggest you read it.)

It's better to do it yourself just because it is hard to know the other caster's intentions. You don't know if they are a scammer and most likely, they don't really care about you. I believe it is okay to have someone cast for you if you have absolutely no desire or drive to learn magick yourself but you are effected by magick. I also believe it is okay to have someone cast for you if they are a trusted friend or family member (or friend of a friend). That personal "link" adds a bit more passion into the work than a stranger on the street. If you are paying them, they may just be taking your money and saying they practiced a ritual when they didn't. How can you prove it? How can they prove it? You can't go to the police and say "he cast a spell for me that didn't work! *stomps foot*" It's a perfect business to make money by lying to people on the internet which is why they are hit so hard here on SoM.
I always work "through the grape vine" with everything. I even find dentists by asking friends (with good teeth!) who they go to. It's the smart way to find good people with certain skills and services you need.
It really don't have to do with energy being linked to someone. Will power is what drives a magickal working. If a person casting the spell for someone else has no emotional attachment to the goal of the spell, little will power is put into it. It simply won't be as powerful because of this.
Lets say you pay a stranger to perform a spell for you, lets say for you to get good grades on an exam. This stranger doesn't have any ties to your goal and doesn't have any motive to do this spell except for the money. Versus you really want this spell to work because you want to do well on the exam and worry studying alone won't be enough. Who is going to have the stronger will power to make this spell work? You, of course. You are emotionally linked to the outcome and therefore will be putting in more energy into the working than a stranger. Its as simple as that.
I should also mention it is different when the spellcaster is a friend who wants to aid you. Workings that would fall under this is hex removals, healing or anything that would benefit you both. But the whole will power thing still applies if they aren't actually wanting to do the spell or don't care about the outcome.
Why have someone else do it for you? That just seems a lazy thing to do, and I can imagine some friend totally messing up a spell (or curse) for you and making your life terrible.
It's going to depend on a number of things. What kind of work it is, what your goal is, and who the person is.
There are a lot of people who run scam operations, especially online. They'll promise you 'instant results!' and '100% guaranteed!' and things like that, which anyone who knows anything about magic knows are very questionable claims to make.
However, there are sometimes when people might benefit from other people doing the work for them. If you're someone who is likely to fret about the small details of your work and can't let it go -- that's something common with rootworking -- you might benefit from finding someone to help. If you're working a really tough situations and think you might benefit from some backup work, there are people who run "candle ministries" and will light candles, pray over with your petition and intent and whatever other information you give them, and this is considered "backing" the work up. I've done this before, and it really does help.
It really depends. Not everyone has the ability, privacy, or knowledge to do magic work on their own. Some people need help. There's nothing bad or lazy about it.
It would be a reat way to become adept at casting spells if you were to do them yourself. Practice makes perfect they say. If you do it yourself then you are the one putting all of your energy into it making the spell that much more powerful.
