I'm quite new to magick, though I have researched it and looked into it for over a year now, I have never tried a spell before. However, whenever I try to meditate, I can't. I know this is because of a mental illness.
Does anyone have any tips/help/anything on this? Or will I never be able to meditate?
I also have trouble meditating but what I found helpful is to meditate at night when your alone in bed. I like to close my eyes and just focus all of my attention on my breathing until my mind is completely cleared. As I'm focused on my breathing I try to relax every single muscle in my body. Meditating is all about being calm and relaxed so do whatever it takes to make you comfortable. You can play relaxing music or burn a nice scented candle. You can also try following along a meditation video. Practising is the key to success so don't stop trying. Allow yourself to be relaxed and have faith in yourself. I hoped I helped in any way :)
Thank you all for your responses, however if I focus on my breathing I get even more jittery and shaky. I'm really only calm when I'm against a corner with a blanket over my head, But a few spells I wanted to use require to be outside.
When I can seem to clear my mind, which usually doesn't last long, I normally get spooked by another one of my auditory hallucinations. I should probably make a calming potion...
Maybe I should try being around my pets? Normally they seem to reassure me that nothing will happen, but the ones that make me the calmest are cold-blooded and can't be out of the tank for too long.
Has anybody ever tried meditating with their pets around?
Meditation may be hard at first, try listening to some guided meditations, they help you get into a meditative state you'll get familiar with and with time you'll be able to acess it on your own. If you have the time try looking for meditation classes around you, I took a week long course with the Art of Living and it was great. The best tip I got was that meditation should be effortless, don't try too hard to block or send away thoughts and feelings, let thoughts come, and let them pass.
Breathing is the first and fore most thing in meditation. turn off the tv, turn off the phone, turn off all sounds, make sure you wont be disturbed. next find a position for yourself that you will be comfortible in for an extended period of time. take a deep deep slow breath in through your nose and hold it for 3 seconds, then exhale slowly through your mouth then hold for 3 seconds. repeat that 3 or 4 times to set the rhythm, then breath the same way but not as deep. close your eyes when ready and just keep breathing....you will see thoughts come to you like flashes, just let them come and let them go...soon you wont see them at all. then you may see colors flashing as well just keep focused on breathing....drink a cold glass of water right before starting all of this.....and if all else fails you can download a meditation app...and use guided
