Incense help
By:
Unsure where to post this so I guess the Admins will change it to the proper area.

I am looking to start making my own incense and I am not sure how to start I have looked online and on youtube and found a good video but where I'm unsure at what base(binds the incense together) to use like it would be a simple base that doesn't really need a whole lot of work or many unnecessary steps just to get one cone/stick of incense and I would like to know what bases are for sale on here I heard makko was the best one but I would like the personal opinions of those who actually make incense. Any help that can be given is much appreciated.

I make my own incenses but I prefer to work with loose incense rather than trying to make cones or sticks. To me loose incenses are "purer" as they don't require any ingredients that don't have a magical purpose in the compound.

Scott Cunningham, in his book "Incense, Oils, and Brews" does give a very good description of making formed incense, either stick or cone, on pages 49-53. He suggests using either gum traganth or mucilage. And he notes that gum traganth is fairly expensive but a little goes a long way.

As Lark said, loose incense is a lot more convenient, and simple.

You can mix your own oils and buy pre-formed sticks for rather cheap online if you look around, also anybody who makes&sells their own incense locally may be able to source you some.

Best of luck!
