That is a vast subject! There are thousands of what we refer to as herbs. Though it must be remembered that every plant that grows is a herb. The best way to start is to grow some of the more common herbs; the ones normally used in cooking.

Thank you for your reply. I do that already some. At the local metaphysical shop there are many different bins filled with a variety of herbs. I've been curious for some time now of some other uses and the how's of it.

I see you have just joined The Broom Closet. You will learn a lot about herbs at that coven.

Read "De natura rerum" by Paracelsus.

Scott Cunningham's encyclopedia of magical herbs is a great book and a must have in my opinion.

I don't know about everyone else out there, but for me, personally, I focus just as much if not more on the medicinal uses of herbs and not just what you can use them for in magic.

I would suggest looking into all of the uses, medical and magical, for the herbs that you can easily obtain, grow in your area, or that you can grow in your own garden. While knowing what a rare plant in South America, China, or Greece is capable of is in no way a bad thing, if you live in England or the US, it might behoove you to learn what grows around your region first.
