You know how the moon effects the tides? Some people believe the moon has the same effect on the flow of magick energy.
In the waxing phase the moon pushes the energy, so spells to draw things to you are best done then because you're working with the natural flow of energy. Waning moon phases pull energy and is good for drawing things away from you. The full and new moon's are seen a peak times.
Granted, this isn't viewed by all, and there are times where you should cast regardless of the moon phase [say a loved one was in an accident and you want to protect or heal them] in these instances you're desperate for the spell to work so it's believed you can call on extra energy.
Personally I only cast out of necessity and not for the sake of casting a spell, so it doesn't matter. If it can wait I'll hold off for the full moon, otherwise it's an emergency. I've cast with and against the moon, didn't see much of a difference.
One way of looking at the universe is
The Sun is God and Gods Twin sibling is the Moon
Both have been worshipped since the beginning of time
The Earths very own Yin Tag,as natural
Friends of the Earth both forces are very powerful and useful in Magick. The topic of the planet's and magick can fill up 1000 books and still not be enough

The moon "phases" do not alter "the shape and size of the moon". They only alter the shape and size of the Sun's reflection on the moon. As the moon orbits the Earth it remains the same size.Even in daylight, when you cannot see the moon, it is still having it's influence on the tides.
People write things off before testing them. How the moon effects a person is individual, and of course, it is these personal effects which truly impact one's magical working.
It has become modern practice to only pay attention to the phase of the moon, when in fact, it could be pertinent to keep a track of the astrological sign the moon is currently in. The same is also true of the sun.
Most practitioners keep a diary, in this diary a mood record should be found along with details which impact on one's practice. It could be an interesting research idea to see how the moon phase effects the mood and magical work by actually recording data from both and comparing, seeing if there is a pattern which emerges.
Many police-person or health professionals hold the belief, or rather have directly experienced, that people seem to get a little agitated towards the full moon, an excess of energy one might say. Even the etymology of the word lunatic has connections to the moon.
Whenever someone asks "Why? "How?" "What?" my response is "Well, this is what happens for me (or doesn't as the case may be), why not keep a record, research, and find out for yourself?"
Every person's experience is different and one should seek to find what works themselves, not what works for another person. So, good luck in your studies!

I did not say the moon has no magic. I was only meaning the size doesn't change. Many people believe that the moon has magic, and I am not "knocking" that belief!
it is all belief. If you don't believe then there isn't even magic and belief is all that matter. Because magic is believeing in yourself if you can do that you can make anything happen. And if you believe moon has an effect on magic it does have

Ah, Living Dead, you think that magic is only belief? Think again! Magic is very real. I can demonstrate witchcraft/magic, and have done, many times over the years.
