Begin by setting up an altar to the runes.
If possible, it should include an image of Odin as well as symbols of the Nornir.
Set the runes in a circle around an offeeing bowl.
You will also need a diabetic lance with which to draw blood.
Consecrate your space.
Have a representation of fire in each side of the runes, and a bowl of cold water, or ice, on the other.
Then make a paste of the following, using roughly equal amounts of each:
- Red Ochre
- High Quality Cacao
- Henna Powder
- Alder Sap
- Tobacco
- Dragon's Blood Powder
- Honey
- Your Own Blood (only a few drops)
- High Quality Ground Coffee
- Ground Amber
- Any powdered herbs you feel are appropriate
____
Then grind everything together with a mortal and pestle and set this plate in a bowl on the altar.
__
Additionally, there should be a circle of tea lights around the runes and six large candles.

"May my honored dead open my eyes,
uncloud my vision, unloose my tongue and clear my ears,
that I may see what is woven in the threads to see and hear the wisdom whispered there.
I ask that you guide me in this work.
I offer this, to you my honored dead."
(Everyone's ancestors likes different things, so use what works for you)
Light one of the large candles.

[Offering and Prayer to Odin]
Pour some liquor into a glass with a few drops of blood. Offer this to Odin with the words:
" Master of Runes, I come before you drawn by their power.
I seek knowledge.
I seek wisdom and understanding.
Mighty Odin, Lord of Asgars, Hanging God, Galdra-Father,
I beg you to aid me on this quest.
May I learn rightly to read what is writ in the web.
May I hear clearly the whisperings of the runes and bear their wisdom back to Midgard with surety,
humility, and clarity of purpose.
Teach me, Master of power, the proper sacrifices to make:
how to read, how to write, how to offer,
how to sacrifice that the runes night share their mysteries with me as well.
Ruthless One, you who murdered yourself for their secrets,
I ask your guidance as I begin my own work with these sigils you so bodly won by the strength and terror of that first offering, hanging nine nights on the body of the most terrible of trees.
May I be bold.
May I be steadfast in this work.
Please teach me, Odin and guide my learning.
I make this offering to you."
_________
_________
Set out the alcohol and light one of the large candles.
Everyone has a different deity.
Make an appropriate offering, say a prayer, and light one of the large candles.
___________
___________
Light one of the large candles, and a stick of incense for each of the folloeing prayers:
"I honor Urd, who spins the web, memory's mother,
by the mouth of the Well.
May I have your blessings on this endeavor."
"I honor Verdande, she who becomes,
Midgard's measurer who lays the threads.
May I have your blessings on this endeavor."
"I honor Skuld, who orders the layers,
Cutter of threads, determining price and consequence clearly earned.
May I have your blessing on this endeavor."
"May the smoke of this incense carry my prayers to the Tree and may my work with the runes receive the Sisters' blessings."
Prick your finger and offer a few drops of blood into the flame
representing Muspelheim, and a few drops into the bowl
of water/ice, representing Niflheim, saying:
"I honor Wyrd, the weaving of Fate,
And all the consequences it brings.
May I learn rightly, use justly,
And never dishonor the teachings of the Tree.
Let this offering here speak to the worlds
Of this willingly accepted obligation.
May it be so."
