Real or Not : Classifying

My area is very prone to supernatural phenomenas, there are many witch doctors in my area as well and they say its spirits, entities and anything like that. Based on personal experiences of people who visit my area there are creatures that they dont know appearing. Illusions are also very common in my area especially to those who are not from my area. So here is my question, how do we classsify if what we see is true and not just a work of the mind?
