Eclectic witch's hated?

I am re-journeying myself and am walking along the path of an Eclectic witch. I noticed that a lot of people are not to fond of Eclectic witches and I was wondering why that is and if everyone feels that way.... I am saying this because, people don't seem to like Eclectic witches because of the ability to pick and choose what they believe and practice. But if you think about it, every other branch of witchcraft does that. Certain people who call themselves Wicca, don't believe in the basics of being a Wiccan, or the Wiccan Crede. Plus witchcraft, is simply that, a craft. We each have our own way of viewing it and how we connect to what we practice and believe....
So why are Eclectic witches hated ?

I have no idea. In fact, I didn't know they were hated except by those who mistakenly believe that Witches are somehow evil beings. And that we all know here is not true.

And what do you mean " Certain people who call themselves Wicca, don't believe in the basics of being a Wiccan, or the Wiccan Cred e."? What does that have to do with eclectic Witches since they are not at all the same thing as you've observed?

I would identify somewhat with being eclectic. I don't believe we are hated, maybe looked down upon by Ceremonial Witches because we do what we want. I like to practice what I deem to be true.

I feel like people often have a bad view of the word eclectic itself. At least in my area, when someone calls someone else eclectic, what they really mean is "crazy, different, weirdo". And that view of the word probably makes people have a skewed view of eclectic witches.

That being said, I really haven't had many people have a negative view of eclectic practioners on this site, or in the occult community as a whole. I think you will find many people on this site to be eclectic.

i didn't know there was hate towards eclectics [heck, i sometimes consider myself eclectic because it's easier than explaining my path] i think it's because it doesn't follow a set of rules and it's so personalized some see it as wishy-washy or 'fake' since you can just make stuff up and say it's real [not saying that's what you do, but some could argue thats whats going on]

regarding Wicca, that's a headache, it's a religion [some say the Catholicism of Paganism] and as such people should follow the rules of the religion [of which theres two, maybe three if you wish to include a God and Goddess as a rule] unfortunately, there are those who mold it to fit their belief [Dianic Wicca for example, no men, which ignores the duality aspect of the religion] or choose to use it because it sounds more peaceful and less scary than 'witch' [Christian Wicca, i'm not saying the path is wrong, i'm saying by definition it works as well as an 'Islamic Hindu', the correct term would be Christian Witchcraft as witchcraft is a craft not a religion, but i digress] thing is Wicca by its nature is fluid and able to adapt and change [hence why there's the Eclectic Wiccan path]

over all my advice is you do you. what sounds right and works for you, you should use in your path. i remember the big argument about 'real witches/wiccans' are vegetarian/vegan a few years ago. the only thing a 'real witch' is, is true to themselves.

Honestly I didn't know eclectic witches were hated at all. However I fully admit Eclectic Wiccans confuse the dickens out of me; mainly because Wicca wasn't intended to be a pick whatever you like religion. Religions have dogma, they have certain set beliefs, when you go outside of that, they aren't that religion anymore.

Witchcraft/magic isn't a religion, it's a practice. So I don't have the same feeling of confusion.

What I mean by Wicca's set rules and stuff. Is I was always taught that Wiccans have the Wiccan Crede and a few believes that most of them share, some don't accept them. But most do, and then their own personally belives came into play. That's why I am referring to Wiccan's. I have meet some Wiccan's who could easily be placed in a different branch of the umbrella of witchcraft. And yes it is a craft, but some do consider it a religion, due to the worship, practice, and love of a dietie, or multiple dieties.
I have meet a lot of people on my path of being an Eclectic witch, who say that since we don't have a base foundation, that we are whishy-washy and that we can make stuff up and no one can stop us because it's a religion, and they believe it is wrong.
Personally, we should be allowed to practice whatever type of witchcraft we want, even if it goes against some of the base foundations of the type of witch we use to call ourselves.
But I was just wondering other's opinions.

For a long time there when I was starting out I considered myself to be Eclectic. I never recieved any backlash for it. Everyone was very welcoming to me. I have never seen anyone treating someone else poorly for being Eclectic either.

However, Wicca is a religion. Like Christianity it has many branches. But there are some core beliefs. A lot of newer people just get confused and call themselves Wicca because they think it is synonmyous with witchcraft. But not all witches are Wiccan. A lot of the most popular books do happen to be written by Wiccans, or so they claim. Even then that is debatable and likely because they think if they put Wicca in big letters they will make more profit.
