Hello, I’m starting out as a beginner and I was wondering about a couple of things regarding spells.
1. What spells should a beginner cast before going on to something more advanced?
2. How can you tell if a spell has mis-cast or backfired? How do you prevent this?
3. What type of spells are easier to cast? What types should I avoid?
If you're truly a beginner you shouldn't start with spells. You should start with the basics such as meditation, visualization, centering, and grounding.
There is no such thing as an easy spell. They all take massive concentration. Really you should do some research to find what you find interesting... What calls to you, as this will help you decide your path.
However, in general, "spells" that you should stay away from are spells that claim to do the impossible such as turning yourself into another being, changing your appearance, or physically moving things just to name a few. As these are simply impossible and arenot what magic is.

If you're serious about learning how to do magic and with starting from the rock-bottom then you don't start out by casting spells, you start out by learning how and why magic works.
You see, there is no such thing as an "easy" spell or a "beginner" spell. One either understands how magic works and has mastered the basics...in which case the magic will work..or you haven't done that sort of work..and no spell will work no matter how "easy" it seems.
Casting a successful spell involves much more than finding some spell on the internet or in a book, saying some words, lighting a candle, waving a wand of any of that sort of thing. In order for magic to work you need to understand how and why it works in the first place. Grounding and centering, visualization, focus and intent, energy manipulation, etc are all necessary first steps to even begin to have a chance at a spell actually working...and more importantly to prevent a spell from back-firing on you.
So, my advice for anyone who is truly serious is to start by reading a few books and practicing the exercises those books will give you. Once you have mastered the basics you won't need anyone to give you spells, you'll be able to create your own spells that will be far more effective than anything you find on the net. Here's the books I suggest:
"Before You Cast a Spell" by Carl McColman
"Spells and How They Work" by Janet and Stewart Farrar
"The Veil's Edge" by Willow Polson
"Modern Magick" by Donald Michael Kraig

I'm a beginner as well. I barely started to do spells and I've been on this path for about 2 years. A good place to start is learning what magick is, correspondences, the elements, types of witchcraft, different paths of witchcraft, learn learn learn and read all that you can. I read anything I can get my hands on. I would write spells and not do them for practice.I also am building a Book of Shadows. I do some rituals but I haven't done any major spells.Right now I'm working on some gris gris bags! I'm learning about tarot, astrology, moon phases, and the basics pretty much. I'm here to expand my knowledge as well.
When you read and learn about the different paths of magick you'll figure out for yourself what spells you won't do and would do. This is a personal choice and you will figure it out while learning and it may change as well. But when you decide to start this journey I advise to be sure of who you are what your beliefs and morals are before casting spells. If you have any questions on what to read, any spells you'd like to do, anything message me! Also everything is a personal choice if you feel ready to do spells now go for it! Just be aware this isn't a game and any spell even with good intentions may backfire
