Low magic and high magic

so one thing I've never understood about magic in my 4 years of practising magic is what is the difference between high and low?
I know high magic is about Cermony and stuff like ussaly to honour a god or whatever and low magic is more good luck charms and hexs but is there really a diffence?

High magic is ceremonial magic. It involves the use of of correspondence tables, rituals and alchemical forms of magic. This was typically the practice of the rich. The reason for this was that the rich were the only ones who could afford the teachers or who had the luxury to study such things indepth.

Low magic is folk magic. It is the practice of the poor, the cunning men and women, the traditional teaching passed down among families. It was the magic of the poor because it didn't require tools or equipment. It required an understanding of herbs, plants, trees, seasons, and other common things that one could easily get a hold of.

I would agree with Nordstar and I would add that typically (and yes, I know there are exceptions) low magic starts off with practical work and then (sometimes) moves into a more spiritual development aspect of magical work. High magic focuses on spiritual development from the beginning and only after the practitioner reaches a level of spiritual development does it start to do practical work.

In regards to your original post, most high magic does work with a great deal of ceremony and ritual, although it is more focused on working with deities and recognizing the oneness in all creation rather than worshipping a deity that is perceived to be separate from us.

So high magic is more occultism and alchemists in castles and low magic is more like village witch and wise man. But neither one is " better" then the other
