So alittle back story when I was a kid I woke up to this giant horned dude who had glowing red eyes I could only see his silhouette but he was opening his mouth to talk to me but I ran out of the room I always wondered who or what it was someone once told me it was a gatekeeper but I don't have anymore info than that

That is quite strange. You did say it was when you woke up, it could have been a hallucination perhaps.

You could try asking them to come back in a dream or other form of communication you prefer. If it was something real and not a hallucination they should come back to you.
I saw scary things or beings as a kid, nothing ever harmed me so as an adult I feel they may have been there for company, as I was a money child, or as protection. Could be similar for you,if it scared you and never came back in that way that seems like they meant no harm and didn't want to scare you again by trying to communicate in the same way.

Well, you said when you just woke you saw it this could be a case of hypnagogic hallucination. When you're barely waking up or still half asleep your brain will sometimes pull tricks on you this could have been your brain pulling a trick on you or even waking. Hypnagogic hallucinations seem very lifelike some people might even hear some things. Not only that for hypnagogic hallucinations can leave someone very confused and conflicted. Although they're rare in children this doesn't mean they can't happen to children. This could be a one-time thing or it can happen many times and if it does I recommend seeking some sort of treatment.

However, if you do truly feel like this was some sort of energy trying to reach out to you for different reasons I would suggest meditating on it because often for me at least when I am trying to contact with an energy meditation often helps me.

Gatekeeper? That's an interesting term.

It may or may not have been an actual demon, but I find it strange that people on a magic forum would try to dismiss it as a hallucination.

Since it happened a long time ago, there might not be too much about it, but I could tell you how to summon it, if you wish.
