poppets are sympathetic magick. Yes they work. They work best if you can incorporate a personal item of your target into their making, such as fingernail clippings, hair or blood. Thats why witches are careful to destroy such things and not leave them where anyone can get them. lol.
Poppets work because you are making a representation of a person. Poppets can be made out of cloth, wax, corn stalks, clay, or anything else you can think of to construct a representation of a person. As for naming a "doll" you can do this many different ways; having a personal item, a piece of the person, or just by writing the persons name on it or in it. Uses for a poppet include healing spells and protection spells as well as "blessings". Have fun and be creative!
I have worked with them. filled them up with herbs and such and a pic or other item from person. sometimes if your lucky u can make it out of a item of their clothing. i have made one for my son . it worked prettty good for awhile.
Creating a poppet is kind of like a created familiar. It has to be "fed" periodically. What you do is every few weeks for as long as you want the spell to keep going you pour more energy into your poppet. I do this during my monthly esbat ritual, That way, I don't forget. Also, when your finished with it and no longer need it, you dispose of it as you would any magickal item, such as the leavings from your ritual and spell candles.Make sure to release your spell first than treat it respectfully and either completely burn it in a fire and bury the ashes or just bury it in a secluded location.

Yes I have made a poppet and yes it worked alright. I agree that you can make them out of just about anything you can think of. A little warning though from personal experience. Never make a poppet of someone out of anger unless you are ready for the consequences. It can have some serious horrible effects and things may happen that you really might regret later.
You should never do a spell while your angry(my personal opinion, I can FEEL all you darksiders bristling with indignation. lol.) A spell needs clear intent and when your head is clouded with rage how can that be?
Without clear intent, a spell can go terribly wrong.
If you chose to make a poppet for cursing then being in a rage or heightened state of anger will help cast the hex more efficiently. You do this at your own risk though, casting spells that harm come with a price if you don't have justice on your side.
