I'm curious how all of you read the future. And what ways you use to achieve your answers.
The explanation doesn't have to be long and can be any way you like. I'm just curious to know how people work on here.
For me:
Usually it is dreams.
I wouldn't exactly call this "fortune telling", but I like to use oracle cards. I'd use them more for guidance and advice, but not to tell the future. Most of the time, though, they have been scarily accurate.
In general, methods that are used to ascertain information not already known fall under the category of divination.
Regardless of method, many people believe that the information conveyed in divination is not set in stone as a concrete future. Most believe it is merely advice, and some follow an understanding that the information is limited by and can even be tainted by the expectations of the person doing the reading.
As for the future not being an inevitability, here is why: We all have free will. If you do divination and it seems to indicate an other than favorable result, it's something you know you can change, if not entirely avoid, by taking a different course of action than your current intention.
Taking this perspective partly explains why so many understand divination to be much more a form of advice than seeing the future. Often, it is a reflection of the present and the behaviors of the current actors in a situation on a possible future. Something else to consider as important is that many methods of divination can be used to reflect the internal state of the practitioner as well, which is my preference with the kinds of divination I use. Often, methods like Tarot and oracle cards catch attention in the aspects which resonate most with the emotions of the person using them. Therefore, it can be used to ascertain the current state of emotions or possibly emotional reactions. My favorite decks have imagery which can reflect more than a single set definition, making them much more useful for this sort of purpose.
A recent reading I've done for myself is about the path I am on, and several options to take towards my future. I included my main possibilities, even ones which I do not so much want, just to see what the cards would reflect. And did they ever! The most likely path, the one which I thought was my absolute best option, returned a reflection of emotions I did not want to admit to myself I was feeling about it, and not necessarily positive ones. The options which I did not really want reflected my worst fears about them, and the very reasons I do not want to pursue them. One option out of all of them seemed to be my best path from that situation, but it also demonstrated there will be difficulties, though the difficulties are internal rather than situational. If I overcome those difficulties, it also does not completely rule out my most likely option at the time, however, it does not commit me to it. I ended up with a timeline, a goal, personal obstacles to overcome, options to avoid, and things to consider. Most importantly, it left me with something to consider about myself and ways to become a better person for the future I desire.
I agree with you. Therefore divination shows us the possible outcomes with the action that will be our options. Free will can have outcomes in different way. And if there are for example three, then fortune telling will tell us which one is the correct one.
The way divination works in co-existence with one's free willhas been explained here impeccably, so I'm not going to elaborate on that issue. However, I would like to introduce you to a system that specifically focuses on the combination of free will and changeable future with "karmatic" future.
This would be the golden dawn system, specifically the elaborate 15 tarot cards layout that has been widely used by the occultists of the golden dawm.
Basically while using this system, I analyze two possible paths - the one I'm currently taking or intend to take, and another one - either an opposite path, a different one or an extension of the path I'm taking. It allows me to compare the consequences of each path and decide which one is best for me.
The interesting thing about this system is that it also deals with karmaticfuture - the one you cannot fully control or change. I wouldn't describe it as a definite future, but more of a "direction" that things are going to flow towards. That way the reader can see the possibilities, but also the ultimate outcome andor obstacles and milestones the target of the reading awaits.
So you use mainly tarot cards to predict the future? Nice and trustworthy way. I am a fan of tarot as well.
PS: This post was not intended as a discussion but rather as a place to share how everyone uses divining techniques in their own way :)

Honestly the way I have always been able to do it is in person or having a photo of the person, but naturally, people don't tend to like that which is why I don't often offer such services.
However, I think I want to start practicing different ways.
Ah, I love this! Hearing and learning about how other people preform divination is something I really enjoy doing, and I could see this being really informative.Nice thread idea, Charles.
My go-to divination method is bone-reading, personally. It's what's clicked with me the most. I also do divination with pendulums, dice, and my bow and arrows, as well as intuition and dreams. I've dabbled in a couple other divining methods, but those are the ones I return to.
