Mercury/Hermes

Has anyone had experience working with Mercury/Hermes? What are the best offerings for him (other than the standard wine/oil/honey)? What are the best ways to connect with him? Do you know of any sacred plants of his? I know that the Maple tree is sacred to him because it is the tree of travelers.
