hello guys! Im just new to this site and I'm wondering if there's anyone here who could help me interpret my dreams. Coz I've been having weird dreams. There was one time I thought I already woke up from my sleep in my room, only to find out that it was just a dream when I woke up and realized I fell asleep while travelling on a car, then the car was running so fast that I couldn't figure out where its taking me, then we passed through a corn field then suddenly were on a cliff, then I woke up again coz theres a random child who pinched my arm while I was lying asleep on a bed in an unfamiliar room with lots of white curtain that I could't see the child clearly. I tried to pull the curtain to see who the child was but then I woke up again in my room lying on the one side of my bed and finally I woke up on the other side of my bed where my actual sleeping position is.. hmmm is it still normal?? other weird dreams that I had there's always a female voice behind me that narrates and explains what's going on unlike this one.. Can anyone tell me what's going on? please
well my grandmother always told me when you dream your falling or driving off a cliff ect your not breathing correctly in your sleep so the angles send you a dream ment to startle you to move so you can correct your breathing
Having dreams that suddenly go from one thing to another in random succession isn't weird at all; in fact it's pretty common. The other night I had a series of dreams where I was first on a boat in Jamaica, then on a bus, and finally dodging a tornado. The reason we don't always find ourselves doing this is more about the fact that a lot of times we simply don't recall all of our dreams and perhaps only remember the one we were having right before we woke up.
That being said, dreams are our mind's way of working out issues from our waking lives. You can try keeping a dream journal at your bedside and writing down your dreams as soon as you wake up before they fade from your memory. Then look for patterns in those dreams and think about how they might relate to something happening in your real life. Since your dreams reflect your unconscious, you are the best person to figure out what they mean.
But, as an example, dreams of falling or speeding towards a cliff might indicate that there is uncertainty in your life that you feel is out of your control. I suspect a lot of us have had dreams like this because of Covid.
Many times I will have a re-occurring theme in my dreams, it involves me packing in a hurry. I always feel like I am forgetting things or I have to leave things behind or each time I pack up a drawer another one is full that I have to pack. This feeling of anxiety is persistent throughout the experience and I often wake the next morning feeling tired and drained. These are stress dreams which are a reflection of what might be going on with you currently. While trying to make sense of the dream itself may be impossible, not everything has a secret meaning, sometimes its just our brain conjuring up familiarscenariosthat we endure throughout the night, due to our brains being overly stressed during the day. The electronic synapses that occur in our brain relay these images, they continue at night and this is where we have the REM sleep cycle. Brain activity is most active just prior to this stage and then after.
Think about what stressors are going on in your life right now. Try and meditate prior to going to bed, allowing your brain to reset from the days activities. If you feel there is deeper meaning you can look to a variety of different methods of interpretation. The most recognizable in the psychology field is Freud, however most of his interpretationsare biased with females. The native American tribes have long studied and interpreted dreams often utilizingnatural drugs (nicotine and yes hallucinogenics) to aid them in the dream world. You can research many cultures to try and better understand the meaning behind them, but honestly, it usually comes down to simple stressors or struggles, or even changes (positive and negative) that are happening in your life right now.
If you continue to have vivid dreams as detailed as you describe, keep a journal next to your bed and when you wake up, write them down. You can then later go back and try to understand their meaning and significance and compare different theoretical approaches.
So far I agree with the general consensus. Though it is uncommon for people to have layered dreams (dreams within dreams) it isn't unheard of. Usually it comes about by being kicked into different levels of consciousness. For example, having a dream having a sudden or startling moment that makes you feel an instinctive urge to flee, escape, or stop the dream. So in reaction the brain decides to separate by recognizing the dream as a dream, but instead of waking up things just sort of reboot. I guess it is like kicking into a moment of lucid dreaming; gaining conscious awareness of your dream state- but then slipping back into normal dreaming.
A common theme in my dreams is encountering a resistance to movement. For example in one dream I was waiting at a lighr-rail train station on my way to work, but the train crashes at the platform and I need to run get help.
Each step gets slower and takes more effort, like I am pushing through water or like time around me is slowing. I want to go faster and feel like I should be but the harder I push the slower I go. I lea forward to push harder, going almost completely horizontal so I can pull with my arms as well as push with my feet, and even end up dragging myself forward with just my arms because it seems more effective before I wake up.
At the time I was constantly feeling like I wasn't making progress in life, mundanely or spiritually. It felt like I was in a holding pattern that I just couldn't break out of. So the dream became a reflection of my feelings of being held back, and the sense of frustration I had being expressed as a need for urgency.
It was weird at the time, but when I look back (a few years down the road) I can see more easily where it came from.
