Personally, I don't use them, but if you wanted to make a protection mix to place by your door or as a decorative something on a table [or at least it appears like it] take a mix of pink salt, sea salt and sand then add to it lavender, rosemary, dried orange slices and a couple of cinnamon sticks. it'll look pretty, smell nice, and provide plenty of good vibes for your house.

obtain holy water from orthodox monastery or church, frankincense, bouquetof basil, and little coals for burning (you can buythose in any orthodox church or monastery)
take a jar, pour holy water in it, and add frankincense inthe water and let it rest for at least a day. when day has passed, filter it out, pour watertothe crystal bowl and dry out residue from frankincenseon a piece of paper. when frankincense is dry, light up coals in your incense burner or in some metal cup you have, put frankincense on coals and go counterclockwise in your house while reading psalm 91 making sign of cross at every corner. later when all coal burned out pourthose ashes intothe crystal bowl with holy water. use bouquet of basilto sprinkle little bit of water in four directions and read psalm 91 again. and lastly drinkthree drops ofthat water and read psalm 91 thirdtime...

Bowl will function as protection as well astrap for negative energies and entities, it will also look and smell very nice, you can keep it at the entrance door, or in your room, or wherever you like. If itcaughtsomething, water will change accordingtothe energies itcaught...greenish or yellowish, or something third...buti can say thatin my house i have bottles of holy water for years and they are crystal clear and i drink from them from timetotime...i have few from Israel, from mountAthos, Ostrog etc...
