Sensing when people talk

Hello.

My mother has always been able to sense when people talk about her, her ears would burn when they're talking even if she is no where near them and has no way of knowing. She says one of her ears burn when males talk and the other burns when females talk.

Recently I've sensed my boyfriend talking about me, my left ear started burning so I asked him if he was talking about me. He said yes, he was talking about me to his mum and sister.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had an experience like this and if they could give some more information on it.
