This spell is best if cast at midnight on the night of a new or waning moon.
Cast a circle if your tradition requires it, otherwise skip this step.
Light the generic, white candle in the center of your altar/spell working space.
Ring the bell to disperse all negative vibrations and to also draw good energy.
Light the sage, and begin to smoke cleanse, picturing all the negativity leaving your body as the smoke washes over you.
Light the dragon's blood incense, and as it burns down, inhale the scent of the smoke (don't inhale the smoke directly,) feeling the power of the dragon's blood rapidly cleansing your aura. Continue doing this until you feel all negative energy has left.
This is a working cleansing. A couple notes, I would not cast a circle for a cleansing. The circle creates a protective barrier and holy ground. A cleansing is to clean the area of negativity. Once you open the circle, the negative energy will return to the area. I would use this to cleanse yourself as well as your home, then cast a protection to keep the negative energy out. My other issue is the use of sage. Sage is used for cleansing, however it is over farmed, especially white sage, and white sage is a sacred plant for Native Americans. While this calls for a smoke cleanse and not a smudge, be aware of the type of sage you are using. I would substitute sage for another cleansing herb, such as rosemary. However, even if you kept this spell exactly how it is, it will still work.
One final point I missed, the time. Cleansings can be done whenever. Technically, I think the waning moon would be best since you are removing energy, but you could do this in the middle of the day on the new moon and it would make no difference. Cleansings are simply cleaning energy. Think about when you choose to physically clean your house. If it is dirty and you have time, you clean it. You do not go Well, the sink is rounded with dishes and the floors covered in crumbs, but cleaning the kitchen is really more of a Wednesday chore and ignore the mess. If midnight feels best for you, do it then, but do not feel you have to do it at midnight, especially if you have more energy during the day.
All indeed very good information to which I agree. Other options for cleansing herbs would be Cedar (particularly the greens) or other evergreen plants like pine or balsam.
Dragons blood is more-often associated with empowerment, rather than cleansing. But to me this works because it is wisely used after the cleansing herb. Clear then empower is a classic and useful one-two punch.
